What Causes Urinary Tract Infection?

Hi, I have been feeling discomfort and my doctor sent me for a blood test and urine clean catch test. My urine test showed a 6-20 white blood cell count and traces of Escherichia Coli. I am not taking antibiotics but was wondering...how does this happen? Am I not doing something? Not eating right? What can I do?

Maintain proper hygiene.
Avoid caffeine, coffee, tea,soda....etc
Frequent urination.
Avoid tight clothes and wear a loose cloth.
Take a craneberry juice.
