What Causes Urinary Retention After Gall Bladder Surgery?

My brother had his gall bladder removed yesterday about 11, and he is taking Norco for pain. He is 40 years old...medical history-had surgery for acid reflux about 3-4 years ago. His pre surgery bloodwork showed that he was dehydrated. I'm not sure how much he has drank, but he hasn't had a urine output since surgery. What should he do?

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

Retention of urine is common after surgery. Mostly urine will pass within 24 hours after surgery. Otherwise catheterization can be done.
If output is low then I V fluid therapy should be given.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic
Wish you a very good health.
