What Causes Urinary Incontinence In A Child After Taking Keppra?

my son is almost 15,he s epileptic and takes keppra. he has developed urinary incontinence during the day. he just started keppra 3 mos. ago, could it be related to the med, or is there something else going on. he does not show any signs of seizure activity when this happens, usually he is laughing, but says he does not feel the urge and can t stop once he starts. very frustrating.

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi,

What you describe is laughing seizure or gelastic seizure and is a symptom of Hypthalamic Hamartoma. He needs MRI brain with and without contrast and also surgery might improve him a lot. Keppra does not cause this. I feel his seizure frequency is increasing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
