Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Unyielding Lower Extremities With Spasm And Pain?
I have a patient with osteoarthritis who now presents with severe hip and knee flexion ( full) which developed quickly after a fall. Films (-) for fx, dislocation. Lower extremity now unyielding to movement with intermittent spasm as well as constant excruciating pain. Cause?, suggestions?
With the picture you have described, it could have been due to cerebral injury or spinal cord injury resulting in upper motor neuron type lesion in lower extremity with flexion deformity. I suggest a neurological examination of the patient and then relevant investigation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Gopal Goel, Orthopaedic Surgeon
