What Causes Unusual Drunken Behavior After Eating Food?

Hi. My dad had a heartattack in 2009 and has been on pills ever since. He had a few TIA s since then. He is a heavy drinker (drinks about 5-7 drinks a night) during the week and more during the weekend. Before supper, he seems completely fine; however, once he starts eating supper, he acts very funny. It s almost like he acts intoxicated as soon as he starts eating. At first, we thought that it was his drinking but it has to be more. Why would he be perfectly fine before eating and once he starts eating, he isn t? He will say things that don t make sense and is very forgetful. Also, as far as I know, all of his TIA s have happened during supper. He also has high blood pressure and diabetes. I ve researched but cannot find answers. I would really like to know what is happening to him during supper. thank you.

Hello,

I think all these signs are indicating another TIA. It is common for heart attack to start while eating. He might be experiencing frequent attacks but he can bear them, and be ok after a while.

Furthermore, he is diabetic, and I'm sure he is taking hyppoglycemiant. I think you should check his blood sugar levels at the moment he is not feeling ok after eating. Sometimes, changes in blood sugar can also cause the same problems.

If I was your caring doctor, would advise to consult with his cardiologist and run a few cardiac tests (EKG, echocardiogram) to evaluate his current health status.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
