What Causes Ulcers In The Mouth?

I woke up this morning with what I thought was two pimples on the side of my mouth and a cold sore on the top of my lip. As the day has progressed, it has become worse, now I have red bumps around my mouth, on my cheek and on the back of my neck. Seems like I am allergic to something. Should I take a Benedrill to see if it gets better?

Greetings from the Healthcare magic members,

I can understand your concern.
There can be a lot of different conditions that may result in sores/blisters or red bumps around the mouth.

Most of the cold sores are are caused by the herpes simplex type 1 virus. They are commonly found on the lips, mouth, around nose and can also affect other parts of skin such as back of the neck. The main stimulus for these sores can be stressful event, injury to the affected area, menstruation
intense sunlight or can be idiopathic. These cold sores usually heal within a period of 1-2 weeks. Some medications help in alleviating the pain and discomfort. You can use Zovirax cream (antiviral cream) which contains acylclovir on the affected areas for 4-5 days. However, i would suggest you to first send me the images of your affected area to come to the proper diagnosis and treatment.

Hope this answer is helpful.

Best regards,
Dr. Khoja
