What Causes Toothache With Redness In The Gum?

My 11 year old has a toothache with slight gum redness. She has a 99.4 fever and is vomiting yellow mucus. She also has a headache and slight facial pain. I took her to her Dr to check on sinus infection. She said no infection because cold symptoms just started during the night. Negative for strep also. Dentist said they have never heard of vomiting with a toothache and won t give her emergency visit. I believe she either has an abscess inside tooth or sinus infection. I don t know what to do. My daughter is in pain and I cannot get her help. On a side note, the same day tooth started to ache ,3 days ago, she developed a boil on upper thigh. Not sure if related to everything else. All cold symptoms and fever began during night last night.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of toothache with redness in the gum along with vomiting which seems to be due to infection in particular tooth area and it could leads to abscess formation and facial space infection as well that is why child is having such symptoms.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit dentist once and get complete oral evaluation done and you should get periapical X-ray of that particular tooth done and start treatment accordingly.

I would suggest you to give child proper course of antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medication and painkiller as well.

- Maintain complete oral hygiene.

- Avoid intake of sticky food and hard food from that side.

- Take paracetamol if fever is of high degree and take soft and bland food.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
