What Causes Tiredness And Low Vitamin B12 Levels?

I was diagnosed with low vitamin b12 around two years ago. I was always tired and was having cramping in my stomach, bloating, frequent urinating and sudden needs to go to the toilet. With the result I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy exam and both showed up clear. I was tested for an autoimmune deficiency which also showed up clear.

I have been away from home for 12 months and in that time I have been taking vit b12 injections. Over the course of the year I had a panic attack and went to the emergency room. The doctor said I had palpitations and he heard a heart murmur and advised me to get it checked out. I have also been suffering from depression for a few years now and stressful times usually cause me to have pains in my chest.

I'm wondering do you think any of this is related? What could be causing my low vit b12 levels if its not the usual conditions?I'm still always tired and have no energy.

Dietitian & Nutritionist 's  Response
Thank you for coming to HCM and visiting me at my virtual clinic here. I can assure you that despite your g.i. tests, you are having intestinal problems and are probably malabsorbing more than B12.

For now, keep up with the injections. If you can find a chewable multivitamin, please take one. You need a multivitamin easily absorbed. If you were my client I would also put you on 1,000 I U of vitamind D as well unless a blood test indicates you need an injection for repletion.

I believe you are sensitive to one or many foods. For your Dietitian consultation,if you decide to go, please bring a food/symptom diary, a list of medication/allergies, diagnosis, supplements, food likes and dislikes,
height and weight. A dietitian will do a personalized nutritional plan for you and work with your symptoms of gas, bloating and stomach cramping.

As far as your panic attacks, this is something you would benefit from talking to a therapist about this. It is important to address your depression. There are many methods to help you feel better from medications to nutrition to talk therapy. Please make an appointment with your physician to discuss your depression and panic attacks. To answer your question about whether all these symptoms may be related an my opinion is yes, they may be.

Come back and see me anytime. Kathy Shattler, MS,RDN

Hi, Depression alone can cause such tiredness. Kindly consult a psychologist to find out the cause of your depression and work from there.
Others that can have a significant impact on tiredness are.
1. Sleep
2. Nutrition
3. Exercise
4. Social behavior.
Instead of getting confused, Consult a physical/ psychologist. I hope this will solve your problems.
