What Causes Tinnitus?

I am experiencing continued noise in my left ear. It is not ringing... it seems to be linked to my pulse or heartbeat. It varies with intensity - sometimes sounding as though there is hammering in the room, other times sounding like a muffled pulsing pump

hello there.thanks for writing to HCM.I have gone through query

from my experience ,what you are experiencing is a variant of tinnitus called pulsatile tinnitus ,which is similar to symptoms what you have described.
The cause could be vascular, tumor-related, or muscular in nature. At times, mostly what patients describe as the thumping sound in the ear would be triggered by stress itself.it could also happen if you have high blood pressure or small blood vessel disorders

regarding details of the tinnitus,it would be helpful,if you could say, what increases it-sitting or standing, lying down or standing up,is it associated with hearing loss /nausea or giddiness or any symptoms.

Usually if its stress induced it will go away on its own.If you feel its increasing in intensity ,please visit an ent specialist so as to assess the ear and nerve functions and other examinations.

for the time being try relaxing, meditating and take alprazolam 0.25mg for 5days at night.please follow up if needed.

hope it helps and answers your query.good day and take care
