Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
About a year ago my jaw completely locked up for about 4 hrs. Since then I am unable to fully open my mouth, my jaw pops when I move it, I have at times a ringing in my ears, and it is very uncomfortable. Would I schedule to be seen by a doctor or a dentist? And what could be causing this?
Locking of jaw is commonly due to jaw joint dislocation. Many a times the dislocated jaw does not go back to its original position leading to always being in a state of locking, popping and compromised mouth opening..
Tinnitus that you are experiencing is also appearing to be due to it..
So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated..
A Panoramic x ray can be done to rule out the exact condition of the jaw joint..
If it is not in its appropriate position then it will be reduced or replaced in the proper joint position so that there is proper mouth opening..
For now avoid forced mouth opening on your own. Take soft diet. Avoid stress. Take pain relievers if there is pain..
Hope this helps..
Regards .
