What Causes Tinnitus After Taking Aspirin?

I had knee surgery recently. I was told to take aspirin 81mg to scare off any bloodcots but now I have a high ringing in my ears. I tried to call my doctor but he won t call back. I don t have any money because I am out of work and have tons of hospital bills coming. Should I quit taking the aspirin, it s driving me crazy and what should I take instead ? Thank You very much John Anthony

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Tinnitus is a common issue and most causes are benign and temporary. However, this lasts for a longer period then it should be evaluated.

Tinnitus can occur due to causes like a chronic ear infection, perforated eardrum, Eustachian tube dysfunction, Meniere's disease, TMJ disorders, Acoustic Neuroma etc.

Tinnitus is not a disease in itself but it is a symptom that indicates that there is some underlying illness. I would suggest you consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Audiometry, x-ray MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

In case if ringing does not resolve then you can be advised medicines like Tricyclic Anti-depressant like Amitryptiline, anti-anxiety medication like Alprazolam, as well as Multivitamin supplements can be advised.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
