Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have noticed over the past several days that I have a slight tingle on my upper left back across my shoulder and along my upper left arm. This does not hurt but I also noticed this tonight even when I was lying down on my bed prior to going to sleep tonight. I do not have any chest pains and I feel great.
The symptoms you are experiencing is suggestive of shingles. Shingles is caused by viral infection (herpes zoster) affecting nerves which present with tingling sensation initially followed by the appearance of pain, redness, and blister formation. Initiating treatment with antivirals like acyclovir/valacyclovir at the earliest is very important in preventing complications like postherpetic neuralgia. So please be advised to follow up with your primary provider to initiate appropriate treatment. Meanwhile, if pain develops you can take Advil 400 mg 4 times daily.
Hope this answers your question Please let me know if you need further clarifications Regards Dr.Lekshmi
