What Causes Tingling Sensation In Upper Lip?

Hello. I started feeling a tingling sensation on my upper lip line, Right in the middle of my cupid s bow while eating. It started itching and it started to swell. When touched, I could feel like a little lump. I iced it a bit and stopped picking at it. It went away about an hour later after it appeared. What could that be?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain tingling sensation of upper lip at the middle of cupid along with itching and feeling of a lump and swelling of lip seems to be due to Allergic Angioedema and as the symptoms you have explained can be due to a bug bite on the lip that has left its toxin under the skin and is now causing allergy symptoms..
Secondly it can also be due to causes like food or medicinal allergies or reaction to any lip/skin cosmetic..
Nothing to worry, it will get resolved soon..
You can take anti-histamines like Levocetrizine or Allegra..
Do cool compresses over the lip..
Apply Calamine lotion to soothe the skin..
Drink plenty of water...
In case of no improvement consult an Allergist and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.

Hi,

The tingling sensation, itching, swelling, and lump you described in your upper lip could be due to a few different reasons. Some potential causes are:
* Allergic reaction: It is possible that you had an allergic reaction to something you ate or drank. Certain foods, such as nuts, shellfish, or dairy, can trigger allergic reactions in some people. It is also possible that you had an allergic reaction to a cosmetic or personal care product that you applied to your face or lips.
* Cold sore: A tingling or itching sensation on the lip could be the first sign of a cold sore. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus and typically start as a small bump or blister that then bursts and scabs over. Cold sores are contagious and can spread to other people through close contact.
* Insect bite: It is possible that you were bitten by an insect, such as a mosquito or a bee. Insect bites can cause swelling, itching, and a raised lump.
* Injury: If you accidentally bit your lip or hit it on something, it could cause a bump, swelling, and tingling sensation.

If this was an isolated incident and has not occurred before, it is unlikely to be a major concern. However, if you notice any recurring symptoms or changes in your lip, it is always a good idea to seek medical attention. A doctor or dermatologist can examine the area and provide a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, if necessary.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
