What Causes Tight Feeling In Diaphragm And Rib Cage Area?

I am currently recovering from bronchitis, just finished all of my meds a few days ago & now having a very tight feeling in my diaphragm area & all the way around my rib cage area. Could this just be from all of the coughing over the past month!? I can breathe alright, just feels like i almost have to force it today. Thanks, Sarah.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, it is likely related to the coughing particularly if it was persistent or severe.

Coughing affects the muscles in the chest wall and can cause them to become inflamed/irritated.
This would not be a permanent problem and would improve on its own but if you feel very uncomfortable or the discomfort is severe then you can consider the use of anti inflammatory pain medication such as ibuprofen, cataflam, voltaren or naproxen

These are over the counter medications , you can use one of these for a few days to see if it helps

I hope this helps
