What Causes Throbbing Pain In Tooth, Itchiness And Pain After Root Canal?

I had a root canal two weeks ago and was going to have the crown placed this week but suddenly I have throbbing pain in my tooth, itchiness, and pain with pressure upon biting down. Can t chew on that side. No sensitivity to heat/cold. My temporary filling is significantly smaller than when placed originally.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain and pressure in tooth after having root canal procedure . Well the symptoms you mention in query are indicating infection in the tooth which undergone root canal . Sometimes infected par left behind even after careful cleansing of tooth in root canal , which spreat and make tooth pain and feeling of pressure , I would suggest you to consult dentist again . Doctor may order X-ray of tooth to find out exact cause and rule out fractured tooth by bite test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics course for 5 days , reconsider root canal or give splint in case of fractured tooth depending upon the diagnosis . For now do warm saline rinses and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and swelling .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
