What Causes Throat Pain While Swallowing Or Yawning?

my friend uses a Juul very often and has recently been experiencing pain when he swallows or yawns. There are tiny swollen glands in the back of his throat and the tastebuds on the back of his tongue are also swollen. Im super paranoid that he has mouth cancer or some shit lol help

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like infection in throat and it is the most common cause for pain in swallowing, swollen glands and taste buds..

As the Circumvallate papillae are present at the back of tongue that is the area close to the throat and infection in throat can cause inflammation of the papillae causing pain and swelling..

It does not seems like cancer..

So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician or an Emergency room and get evaluated and a clinical examination should be done..
An oral and throat swab culture can be done to rule out the exact nature of the symptoms..

You can be advised a course of antibiotics like Augmentin, anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and do warm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash gargles.
Suck throat lozenges..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
