What Causes Throat Pain After Smoking Tobacco?

My son (24) has been smoking hookah for several years. He has not been smoking it lately because his throat was hurting too much when he smoked. Also, he has been catch a cold at least 1-2 times a month and I feel it is related to the hookah smoking... He is a ALL (childhood lukemia) survivor, and has been in remission about 13 years. He has not gone in for his annual check up yet...

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, your assumption is right.
His all symptoms are mostly due to hookah smoking.
Hookah smoke causes irritation and inflammation of throat. So sore throat is very common after hookah smoking.
Along with this, smoke also reduces local defence of throat and prone it for recurrent viral infection. This is the reason why he is having recurrent cough and cold.
So better to quit his hookah smoking habit. Get done annual check up for ALL.
Warm water gargles 5-6 times a day is also beneficial.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your son. Thanks.
