What Causes Throat Infection Along With Diarrhea And High Fever?

Hi doc my 1year old baby was diagnosed with throat infection and amoebe on Friday he s been puking and diarrhoea and very high fever,from Mon its better BT from yesterday he s started coughing very productive its almost like running nose also and he s still in his medication....Entamizole and cefadroxil,calpol..What should I do and what could be the problem? Pliz help

Hello. For throat infection you can give those antibiotics like cefedroxil and anti-pyretic (to reduce fever) like calopl. Watch for symptoms like- increased respiratory rate > 40 breaths per minute, chest indrawing, grunting sound while breathing etc. In case there is any of these symptoms your child may require admission in the hospital and treated with oxygen and IV antibiotics.

Also look out for signs of dehydration in your child because of diarrhoea. If your child is very drowsy, lethargic, not feeding well, not passing urine as usual then you need to go to emergency and get the child admitted and the child may need to be put on IV fluids.

For the time being give your child plenty of fluids- milk, rice water, warm fruit juices and preferably ORS solution. The instructions for preparation of ORS solution will be given in the packet.

Just keep a watch for all these symptoms. It may take a day or two for the symptoms to subside with the medications given.
