Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Throat Discomfort And Cough While On Tikosyn?
My dad has suffered with cardiomyopathy for the past 18 years and takes tikosyn for his afib he has been out of bed for apporoximately 1 hour in the past 26 hours and is clearing his throat and coughing quite a bit! He has 20 % ejection fraction . Oh but says he s fine!
If he is already taking this drug for twenty years now he developed throat clearing cough maybe not due to this drug.
He may be developed fluid in lungs after lying down on bed seen in low ejection fraction patients is called PND or it may be due to pharyngitis or thick mucous or acid reflux with aspiration etc.
So elevation of the head end of the bed, oxygen supplementation is useful. You also check for other possibilities by taking him to your Cardiologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
