When brushing my teeth my saliva seems to be thicker than ever before. I use to work for oncologists and remember one saying that cancer patients have .... (I forget the exact word he used) thicker...heavier? saliva and I wondered if that is true and what it might mean if in the last year or so my salvia has changed? I only notice this when brushing my teeth...I am 58 yrs old.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
As per your complain thickening of saliva can be due to reduced serous secretion of saliva and can be due to causes that can lead to dry mouth like side effects of medications, salivary gland dysfunctions, oral infections like Thrush, mouth breathing, nerve damage etc.. In case if you experience chronic thickening of saliva you can consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can be diagnostic.. As of now you can chew sugar free chewing gums and tart candies as they help in improving saliva secretion .. Drink plenty of water.. Maintain a good oral hygiene..
Hope this information helps..
