What Causes Thickened And Lumpy Breasts With Pain And Itchy Nipple?

I saw the doctor today. I have an itchy nipple and pain the breast, when I checked the area of the pain, I thought I felt a thickening in the breast. I felt further and thought I just had lumpy breasts /cysts. My doctor was unable to say for certain if the thickening was there, she thought it was thicker than the other breast, but didn t want to palpitate more because my breasts were extremely sore. I am 50, sort of trying to become postmenopausal. I have had itchy nipples in the past, and itchy and painful lymph glands in my arms and simply attributed it to hormones. my first cousin has triple negative breast cancer, and my mother died of breast cancer at 76. she was first diagnosed when she was 71. I had my first child at age 32. My periods started when I was 12/13 (?). I didn t breast feed much, because I didn t produce enough milk. My BMI is extremely high and I have a very fatty liver and a history of endometrioses. I am also have symptoms in my uterus, and have a larger than average uterus. I just attributed this all to my endometrioses and hormones. I am 53. I have a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound on tues. Is there any chance this isn t breast cancer?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It can be due to cyclical mastalgia:

As a first step, you can take analgesics like mefenamic acid or aceclofenac for pain relief. If symptoms persist better to consult a general surgeon and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
