Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about your condition of having external pruritus of the vagina. This condition sounds to me like dermatitis or irritation of the skin.

This is caused by exposure to irritants or allergens that may cause itching and burning of the vulva.

First line treatment of this is to stop scratching the area because this will cause more irritation and itching which will worsen the condition. Next thing to do is to remove the irritants.

Possible irritants are laundry detergent, bath soaps, lotions, perfumed feminine wash, bubble baths/salts, condoms with lubricants, and some synthetics such as nylon underwear.

You must also refrain from using tight-fitting jeans or underwear (wearing cotton underwear is advised). Proper hygiene must be done and keep the area dry.

In my practice, I would prescribe a mild topical stroids to decrease inflammation.

However, it is better to see your local doctor since this platform is limited and I won't be able to do a complete physical examination and see the extent of dermatitis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Manuel C See IV, Urologist
