What Causes Terrible Cough And Pain Under My Rib Cage?

My 64 year old partner has had pain in his right side for a couple of weeks, yesterday I pushed lightly on area about two inches below his rib cage. I could tell by his facial expression that this hurt. My partner is a drinker and smoker and has a terrible cough that has been around for over twenty years. He will not go to the doctors.

Hi, welcome to Health care magic forum.
It appears that he has a lower respiratory tract infection.the other causes could be the gallbladder stones, hepatitis, gastric irritation,or renal colic due to the urinary tract infection, or stones in the ureter.
I advise you to consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment.
You may need to have MRI and other tests for confirmation.
Let him take more of green leafy vegetables, pulses, sprouts, and protein rich foods to have blood, general health and resistance against infections.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
