What Causes Tender Bumps Behind Both The Ears?

Behind both my ears I have little bumps that form a line when squeezed white pasty discharge comes from it what weird is that it almos is a line you can see along the back of my ear and you can palate it and feel the "squishy stuff" but doesn't always come out! Tender to touch? I thought it was acne nothing is solving my problem as far as making sure the area stays clean! They have been there for a while and only seem to get worse..they also "refill" with the white stuff it's like a vicious cycle! Thank you!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

The most probable reason for lumps behind your ears is lymphadenopathy means inflammation of lymph nodes . There can be many reasons for inflammation of lymph nodes like :-

- Ear infection .

- Tooth infection or impacted tooth.

- Tonsillitis .

- Skin infection .

- Some diseases like tuberculosis ,hodgkin disease or leukemia.

As your lumps are tender to touch . I would suggest you to consult doctor or surgeon for proper evaluation and treatment .

Doctor may order blood test lymph node biopsy ,chest X-ray or do physical examination.

Doctor may prescribe antibiotics for infection along with other medication depending upon the results .

For now give warm compresses and take take ibuprofen (if not allergic) or paracetamol.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
