What Causes Swollen Tongue After Taking Antibiotics For Respiratory Tract Infection?

I recently went to a dr for upper respitory infection. he prescribed antibotics, cough syrup, and a steroid. now my tongue feels swollen an scratchy and its difficult to swallow. altho I don t think its an allergic reaction because I hasn t gotten worse. I just cant taste my food

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swollen tongue after taking antibiotics for respiratory tract infection which seems to be due to prolongation of cold and it could be due to super infections and due to aphthous ulceration.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit oral surgeon once and get complete examination done. You should start treatment after complete examination. Apply oral antiseptic and analgesic ointments like mucogel topically over affected area. Maintain complete oral hygiene and avoid taking any sharp and spicy foods. Rinse with antiseptic mouthwash. Take multivitamin supplements.
