What Causes Swollen Painful Gland In The Groin Of A Toddler?
Hello! My 3 year old daughter has a very swollen gland(I think?) in her groin area. It is in the pooch above her vagina on the left side(when looking at it but on her right side I guess) She says it hurts when i touch it but doesn t complain about it other wise. I ve noticed the last couple Of weeks that she hasn t been drinking a whole lot and her pee has been dark with a very strong urine smell. I ve been trying to get her to drink more but I still don t feel like it is enough. She s happy and full of energy as usual and hasn t had fever or anything, but she does have a cough and runny nose. What should I do? I just noticed it a couple of days ago when she was standing up but when she lays down I can t hardly feel it. It seems to be a lot bigger this evening.
A mass in this region is most commonly a enlarged lymph node or a hernia though there are other causes as well.
Lymph nodes tend to enlarge if there is any source of inflammation in the surrounding area eg a rash, bruise etc They may take 4 to 6 weeks to resolve.
If this is not the case, she may need to be evaluated to determine if it is hernia or if there is another cause.
I hope this helps
