What Causes Swollen Lymph Node In The Neck?

Had surgery on the under side of my tongue for carcinoma last Wednesday. The glands in my neck became very swollen starting Saturday morning. They swell up quickly and then the swelling goes down but are still quite swollen. This happens three or four times a day. Should I see a doctor?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Swollen lymph nodes in the neck post surgery under the tongue for cancer is probably due to inflammation of the lymph nodes post surgery as it is common to see inflammation and swelling of the soft tissues and the glands post oral surgery..

But in case if the swelling does not get better in next 10 days then you need to get an FNAC done to rule out any lymph node involvement..

As of now take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and do cool compresses over the swelling..
In case if any Infection is suspected consult your Oncologist so that he can advise you antibiotics..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
