What Causes Swollen Lip?

My husband was hunting yesterday afternoon and suddenly felt his lower right side lip swelling. The swelling was extremely large and them by the evening the left side of his lower lip swelled too. This morning he woke up with the whole lower lip extremely swollen. Now it appears to be shrinking. What can this be?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain it seems like there has been a bug bite while hunting leading to Allergic Angioedema of the lip due to injection of poisnous toxin by the stinging organism and the poisonous chemical is causing reaction in the form of swelling of the lip..
Nothing to worry as it will be resolved soon, although can take about a week to resolve completely..
He should take anti-allergic medicines /anti-histamines like Diphenhydramine [benadryl or fexofenadine[allegra] or levocetrizine for faster resolution of the swelling.
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller medicine like Diclofenac potassium or Ibuprofen.
Do cold compresses over the lip.
Apply calamine lotion to relieve irritation.
Do not apply pressure, suck or bite the lip..
Drink plenty of water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
