What Causes Swollen Gums And Small Pimples Inside Mouth?

swollen gum at back of my mouth by last molar. NOT painful but has a couple of white heads like mini pimples. Dentist says may be a cracked tooth but no tooth pain or sensitivity. Xrays show nothing, so sending me to a root canal specialist....I know that it is not a tooth issue but more so a gum issue, possibly some sort of bacterial infection???

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query it is the case of abscessed tooth, there is sinus which is related to molar area of your oral cavity. When the nerve in tooth dies it becomes infected. This infection keeps on accumulating around tooth, bone, gums and it finds no path to escape due to which it puts pressure and cause pain. But eventually it find a path through bone and make a track to escape which is known as sinus and it cause pimple formation there. Eventually pus start draining out and form white heads there.

As the dead tooth is the major cause for this i would suggest you to visit your dentist immediately and get IOPA( X-ray ) of that tooth done and start root canal treatment of your affected tooth. Take antibiotics course to subside this infection.

Maintain basic hygiene of oral cavity by brushing and flossing.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
