What Causes Swollen Glands In Neck, Low Grade Fever, Cough And Nasal Bleeding?

My 16 year old daughter looks to have a swollen gland under her chin and a low grade fever with a cough. Yesterday she had a bad nose bleed with blood clots. We ve been cough syrup cold plus seltzer tablets. Any clue as to what might be causing these symptoms

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

It does sound to me like an upper respiratory tract infection, which could have been complicated either by constant blowing of a runny or congested nose that can result in a nose bleed, which is a common occurence.

Just make sure you ask your daughter not to pick her nose or blow it too hard. She can use decongesants like xylometazoline or oxymetazoline to clear her congested/blocked nose.

Best wishes.
