What Causes Swollen Feet After Prostate Surgery?

My father had prostate surgery last Thursday and is experiencing a lot of swelling from feet to below the knee. He has taken lazik pills and is walking around every hour. The rest of time he is keeping his feet up. He is 79 years old is there anything else he can do to get swelling down? Extra Lasik pill?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Swelling of the feet occurs after prostatic surgery when removal of lymph nodes or damage to the lymph system occurs. This causes lack of drainage of excess fluids causing pooling of fluid in lower limbs. Lymphedema can be treated with life style modification. Wear compressive garments like stocking or sleeves, proper diet, skin care, exercises, massage, complete decongestant therapy, some cases need surgery, no word such as extra lasix pill.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pavani
