What Causes Swollen Eyelid?

Hi my eyelid gradually swelled up today, first at the edge of the upper lid but over a couple of hours the swelling spread to the whole lid and lower lid. I can still see through it. I just took a Benadryl as I think it may be an allergic reaction to something, and was wondering how long it would take for it to take effect and for the swelling to go away.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to Health Care Magic Team.

Understanding your concern.

The most probable reason for your eyes allergic reaction due to medicine you took .you should go to ophthalmologist .
Treatment should start with removal of underlying cause .Your doctor can prescribe you some antihistamine drugs for allergy either oral or In the form of eye drops .
For now you can apply cold packs to your eyes and drink lots of water so that medicine you took , clear off from your body quickly.
The symptoms will start reliving as medicine that caused allergy clear off your body and you start taking medicine
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get well soon.
Best Wishes,
