What Causes Swollen Cheek, Painful Tongue And Fever In A Child?
Our 6 year old granddaughter has swollen cheeks and a painful tongue making it hard to eat solid foods. She does not have a fever and appears fairly normal energy wise. She has had all her shots and doesn't complain about a sore throat. Any possibilities other than mumps?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of swollen cheek, painful tongue which seems to be due to swelling of submandibular and parotid glands in cheek and near jaw line, poor immunity, dehydration or mumps. It could be due to tooth infection leading to facial space infection.
Need not to panic about it. Visit pediatrician once and get proper examination of salivary glands. Start the treatment as per the underlying cause. You should take proper course of antibiotics along with antiinflammatory medication. Maintain hygiene of child. Apply cold compresses. If it is related to particular tooth go for RCT of that tooth and swelling will subside.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
