What Causes Swollen Abdomen And Constant Weight Gain After Taking Norgest?

Hello, I am a 20 year old student. I recently gained a lot of weight, nearly 20 kgs in a matter of 8 months. Then I took an ultrasound to discover that I have polycystic ovaries. I referred to a local gynae who gave me norgest 5 mg thrice a day for 20 days. Since then my stomach always feels swelled and I am further gaining weight. Please help!

Hi,

Well, I think you've already mentioned one of the more likely causes. It's more an issue of causality. PCOS will tend to go with weight gain, fluid retention, hormonal problems. If it is fixed, then these get better if it is not fixed then they progress. Hence, norgess often fails. It never works immediately and the PCOS will get worse before it gets better. There are other possibilities, maybe ovarian cancer but that is unlikely to be missed on the ultrasound.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
