What Causes Swelling On The Shin After An Injury?

My fiance fell a couple weeks ago scraping his shin. Today he showed me the wound was swollen and had stayed to bleed. We went to a doctor and they drained it and put him on two antibiotics. Twelve hours later we see the ankle on the same leg swollen. What should we do?

Hi,

It looks like due to scraping over the shin and lack of immediate treatment there has been infected in the area leading to bleeding and swelling.

Swelling in the area can be due to inflammation spreading in the soft tissues due to infection.

As you are already advised antibiotics you should continue the same as it will definitely help in improving and along with it you can also take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen.

You can also do cool compresses over the swelling

Elevate your feet while lying down by keeping pillows under the leg.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
