What Causes Swelling On Ear Lobe After Ear Piercing?

I had my ear lobes pierced for the second times six weeks ago. I changed the earrings to silver earrings after six weeks and one of my lobes is swollen and a bit sore. Also when I knocked it some fluid came out of the whole! What is wrong with it? the other lobe seems fine!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that you have infection at the site of ear piercing leading to redness, soreness and fluid discharge from the hole..
There is also a possibility that you are allergic to metals other than gold as sliver along with other metals are not inert in nature and can decompose when exposed to water and air..
The decomposition products can cause allergic reaction and can cause inflammation and discharge of inflammatory fluid..
I would suggest you to remove your earring and clean the area with antiseptic solution..
You can apply a combination of antibiotic ointment and steroid ointment over it..
Do cool compresses over the area..
Gradually as the healing will proceed you should not wear anything in ear till it heals completely..
Once it heals it will be better if you wear gold or plastic earrings as they are inert materials and will not cause any reaction..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
