What Causes Swelling Of Neck And Face Oozing Pus After Glossectomy?

Yes I have a friend who 1 week ago had a glossectomy of 90% of their tongue has been removed and a flap was reconstructed from leg tissue. He is having swelling of the neck and face since we left the hospital on Thursday. before he left the put the trac neckband on top of the staples. it is also oozing pussy looking thins from under the trac. I called the office Friday and the nurse said the pussy look from under the trac is most likely skin breaking. Of course it is sat and no offices open. help

ENT Specialist 's  Response
In my opnion the swelling is post-operative tissue edema which subsides in 2 weeks, however, if the oozing and is looking like pus then there are chances of infection and that infection can also cause swelling in neck. My suggestion is go back to the operating surgeon and he will look and if required will remove pus with supportive antibiotics and other medication, He will also rule out any fistula.
