What Causes Swelling Inside The Upper Lip?

At first I thought I had something stuck in my teeth (this is exactly what it feels like), but after flossing I noticed that the inside of my upper lip was actually swollen a bit. There's no pain, just a minor discomfort , but I was wondering if this could be anything that I should be concerned about? I noticed it very suddenly after eating dinner, which is what lead me to believe that it was just a piece of food in my teeth, but that definitely isn't the case.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain the swelling inside the upper lip can be due to either injury caused by the teeth or any hard food causing inflammation and swelling or it can be due to allergic reaction to certain foods..

While in case if it is in the form of a small lump it can be a Mucocele formed by either clogged duct of minor salivary gland or ruptured duct of gland.

You need not to worry as if it is a swollen lip it will gradually resolve on its own..
If there is itching or any other symptom associated with it you can take benadryl which is an anti-allergic medicine..

If it is a lump which can be a mucocele do concentrated salt water rinses as it will help in resolving it..

If the swelling does not go away in 3 to 4 days consult an oral physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
