Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I woke a few days ago with a swollen upper lip. The next day my cheeks were swollen. No toothaches although quick care doctor suggested that an infected tooth & prescribed antibiotics. Swelling has subsided by still tenter to touch at the bottom & sides of my nose.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swelling in upper lip and cheeks which are mainly due to allergic reaction to insect bites( such as ticks). Dental infection is also one of the cause for these symptoms but in your case it seems more to be allergic reaction. I would suggest you to take antihistamine tablets as it will subside the allergy and your symptoms will be resolved immediately. Benedryl would not be of any use. If pain is severe enough that i would not let you sleep you should visit general practitioner as soon as possible. Till then take ibuprofen or Tylenol to prevent pain. Drink alot water. Apply ice cold pack in that swollen area it will subside swelling.Consult your allergy specialist for proper diagnosis . Your allergist may want to conduct skin tests, blood tests , skin-prick test and urine tests to identify the cause and rule causes like angioedema. For now apply cold compresses to affected area.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
