What Causes Swelling In The Upper Abdomen?

Hi my mother 52yrs old has suffered from unexplained internal swelling above the stomach area for the past 20years and has gradually got worse. Doctors don t understand what it is thats causing the swelling. It comes and goes. They have inserted cameras to look inside, carried out ultrasounds amongst various other tests. She goes to the gym regularly but cannot shift a single pound in weight. Any thoughts of what could be causing this? Do you think she should have her pancreas checked?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I agree with you on the fact that Pancreas should be checked considering her symptoms. For this reason, I would recommend performing amylase and lipase plasma levels.

Anyway, as this situation has been going on for such a long time, and she is an active person, I don't think that anything serious is going on.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
