What Causes Swelling In The Toes And Feet?

My husband s feet and toes are swollen. He did not injure himself and he is not in pain, but his feet hurt when he wears shoes. He is overweight and takes blood pressure medicine. He also does a lot of standing at work. Is this swelling work related or something else? If it is something else how urgent is it for him to be seen by a doctor?
