He is also border line diabetic and urinates frequently during the night. Uses a Cpap also. He has been a multi reed jazz musician for 60 years really putting pressure and work out on his fingers and hands. He has had trouble in the past with trigger finger and three surgeries for this condition. right now, he cannot make a fist open a bottle and it does go into the arm......please advise.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Considering his profession as musician as multi reed jazz, multiple surgeries for trigger finger and now rotator cuff injury surgery on right side the possibility of a local can not be ruled out for the swollen hands but can not explain the swelling of left hand with surgery on right side.

Hence the possible cause can be as follows:

Hypothyroidism
Bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome
Hypoproteinemia
Anemia
Arthritis and such local causes
Tenosynovitis

This is possible to get an exact diagnosis by a clinical evaluation, examination and relevant investigations so that a proper management can help him.

Hope I have answered your query.
