What Causes Swelling In The Gums After Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

I had my two bottom wisdom teeth extracted a week ago. Seems to be healing good. Very little pain. Today how ever i have noticed the gum on the molar, next to the extraction sight, is swollen and white. There is no pain when i touch it. I am on amoxicillin four times a day, since extraction, but i am still worried it could be an infection. My dentist is closed until next tuesday or i would call them. There is no swelling, heat, or a fever.

Hi..
Welcome to HCM..

As per your complain when the gum that is present attached to the wisdom tooth is removed, then some portion of the gum flap that is covering the adjacent molar is also reflected to ease in the removal of the tooth and in that case when the healing progresses the tissues can change its colour form red, pink to whitish and pale and is not abnormal..

So do not worry as the gum flap appearing white that is in healing phase and not a sign of any pathology..
As there is no heat, swelling or pain, it is further a sign of healing...
You should continue following post extraction instructions and do warm saline gargles..
Follow up with your dentist soon as it is advisable to get checkup done after a week of extraction..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
