Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have swelling in both feet but quite abit more in the left foot, the swelling is on top of the foot and then around the ankle, It is very painful around the joint of the big toe. The swelling sometimes goes up the leg into the calf area. Just within the last 3 days the left leg up through the knee area has become painful (like a continual ache. No matter what shoe I put on it hurts.
Wearing tight socks and keeping your legs elevated whenever possible and not standing for a long time is helpful in this case.
The heart, liver and kidney function may as well affect the feet and cause swelling which in general is both sides and might be worse on one side compared to the other as well.
Some drugs like amlodipine as well can be a common cause of swelling in the legs.
Very rarely the thyroid is a cause of swelling when its function is very low. To conclude I would say:
Please see your doctor and have the proper examination to determine the most likely cause of the swelling of your legs and feet.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Zotaj Antoneta, General & Family Physician
