What Causes Swelling In The Feet While On Protein Supplements?
my 32 year old son has badly swollen feet. I took him to his drs. and the recommendation was to go to the emergency room. He had been using protein powder to enhance his workouts, and they told him his liver enzymes were elevated and for him to stop using the protein powder, use compression socks and elevate his feet. That was two days ago and there doesn t seem to be any lessening of swelling. Would cherry juice help? or what would help ?
If after investigations and examination the doctors have diagnosed your son as having liver dysfunction, possibly due to protein supplements, then it is most important that he stop taking the supplement. Also he must avoid alcohol as this also damages the liver. Liver dysfunction can lead to leg and feet swelling. The doctors have rightly advised feet elevation and the use of compression stockings. However, it would take many months for the liver functions to become normal and the leg swelling to resolve. He must continue with the above advise, get the liver function tests done at-least once a month and consult a gastroenterologist.
