Are Episodes Of Painful Swelling In The Knees While Having Gout And Moderately Normal Uric Acid Levels Normal?
Every time I get blood work done my uric acid levels are within or lower than the normal parameters. every time I see a physician they insist I m having a gout flare up in my knees. every time my knees swell up and hurt I am unable to walk and function normally. it acts like a gout attack but with the uric acid levels where they are at is it still possible to have a flare up? if not, what are the chances it could be a different condition where the physicians may not be looking?
Yes, this is quite possible to have gout with normal uric acid level though mostly it's raised. The diagnosis of gout is made by its typical clinical history and the analysis of joint fluid that is inflamed. So if your joint was aspirated the test is more important for the diagnosis of gout. If that is not done and the uric acid level is normal then I would advise to that for confirming a diagnosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
