What Causes Swelling In The Ankles While On Tikosyn?
Thank you. My husband just started taking Tikosyn for heart arrhythmia and diltiazem to control heart rate. He started them both in the hospital 4 days ago. He is only on a 250 mg dose of Tikosyn because he also takes fluconazole because of immune suppression to control GVHD (from bone marrow transplant in 2010). I just this evening noticed that his feet/ankles seem somewhat swollen (fluid retention?). I am wondering if any of these drugs (or the combination thereof) may be causing this, that you know of.
Edema/ swelling in ankles is a side effect of diltiazem (not tikosyn) However, it is important to assess the cardiac function, especially since he is on diltiazem and tikosyn. The decline in pumping efficiency of heart can lead to edema. Heart functioning is assessed by Echocardiography. Please be advised to follow up with your treating physician for necessary evaluation.
Hope I was able to help you Please address further questions here Regards, Dr.Lekshmi
