What Causes Swelling In Neck?

II have fairly large swelling in the middle of my neck just above my adams apple. I have had thyroid blood tests and ultra sound scan all negative. Could it be a thyroglossal cyst? I know is not normal to have such huge swelling in my neck and now feel a bit worried. I can actually move it from side to side.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The swelling may be a pharyngeal diverticulum or a thyroglossal cyst. Rather than an ultrasound you undergo endoscopy or bronchoscopy or barium swallow to accurately diagnose it. If it is not impeding your swallowing or anything you can leave it be or discuss it with general surgeon for next step.

Hope I have answered your query.
