What Causes Swelling In Face After Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

I have recently gotten my wisdom tooth extraction. 2 on my left side and 1 on my right. My left side has swollen up more than I had expected. I have been taking vicoprofen for the pain and antibiotics as well. But I have noticed that I have a hard lump on my left side of my cheek. The cheek is also red and hot to touch. I m worried if it might be infected. Prior to the surgery, I had an infection in one of my wisdom tooth. I had taken antibiotics and now after the surgery I am taking another set of antibiotics.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain the swelling after wisdom tooth extraction is not an uncommon finding and as you got two wisdom tooth extracted on left side there would definitely be more inflammation and swelling.

The redness and increased temperature is also due to inflammation due to which there is swelling.

As you already had antibiotics before extraction and even having them after extraction chances of infection are less likely.

I would suggest you to continue with the medicines given to you by your dentist and if the swelling is excessive and does not reduce you should consult you dentist so that he can either add a steroid tablet to your dose or give you injectable steroid like dexamethasone to relieve your inflammation and swelling.

I would suggest you to follow all the instructions given to you and apply cold packs over the swelling as it will help in relieving inflammation and reduce swelling, heat and redness on ace.

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
