What Causes Swelling In Collar Bone After Whiplash Injury?

I was involved in a rear end collision and as a result I received whiplash. There was no head rest in the automobile I was a passenger in. Since then I noticed swelling in my collar bone next to my throat. Could this be a result of my auto accident?

hello,
i can understand your concern.
based on the history, it appears to be pretty much due to the injury you have sustained following the road traffic accident.
is there any restriction in the movements? are there any crackling sounds during the movements??? if no this is not much of a concern. if present i would suggest an x ray of the shoulder to rule out any fracture of the collar bone(clavicle)
collar bone injuries or even fractures usually heal on their own. only a displaced fractured would require a surgical correction.
with the history you have given you donot appear to be in so much of pain. hence fracture is almost ruled out.(better to confirm with an x ray)
i would advise an anti inflammatory drug like aceclo sp(aceclofenac+paracetamol+serratiopeptidase) for you to be taken for five days. this will aid in reducing the pain and swelling over the area.
a local diclofenac patch or gel can also be applied.
kindly give rest to the affected part by not moving it much.
the pain and swelling would usually subside in two weeks time.
a figure of 8 brace would be helpful if a minor hair line fracture is noted in xray.
hope i have answered your queries.
feel free to ask further queries.
thanks for choosing HCM.
